Dexterity Stock Control System

Dexterity WMS - Speciality Modules

Dexterity WMS automates the entire warehouse, but once the Warehouse Manager sees the power and accuracy this offers, they often want additional control. Barcode-IT has designed a range of speciality modules that add-on to the basic Dexterity WMS transactions to give a 100% fit to your business.

Below are examples of some of the speciality modules we have written for our existing customers:

Pallet & Storage Unit Management

Advanced Order Management

Works Orders & Bill of Materials (BOM)

Carrier Integration

Back To Back Orders

Automated Email Communication

Pick To Box/Pick To Bundle

Compliance Labelling Module

Pallet & Storage Unit Management

Dexterity WMS caters for pallet building and movement to track large amounts of material into the warehouse. This includes pallets of mixed products, which helps when building specific customer orders and moving them to a packing or shipping area.

Dexterity WMS can use the existing pallet ID labels from your suppliers or you can build and label pallets on receipt to streamline downstream operations from putaway, replenishment and order picking. Dexterity WMS can manage pallet sizes and Ti/Hi (Tier and Height) details, which are used to decide which pallets can fit in which locations based on the warehouse rules.

  • Dexterity manages pallet and storage units
  • Unique "Pallet ID" binds the stock together in the system
  • Manage pallet sizes and locations
  • Pick whole pallets units for bulk orders
  • No item counting or errors

Advanced Order Management

The Dexterity WMS Advanced Order Management module allows specific rules to be applied to the order picking process to smooth workflow, minimise travel distances for pickers and optimise picking for regular customers. Endon Lighting use AOM to control an order cut off time for customers, which help guarantee next day delivery. Orders are consolidated and grouped for each customer and are picked and dispatched together to a single address.

With a defined cut off time, any orders placed before the cut off are automatically consolidated and picked in a single run, with orders placed after the cut off held over to the next shift. However, Managers can over ride the standard rule and move urgent orders to immediate pick if required. In addition the AOM can prioritise and allocate customer orders to specific pickers for urgent or time critical orders. This gives the Manager as much control as he wants, but does not require constant attention.

Works Orders and Bill of Materials (BOM)

The Kitting and Bill of Materials module in Dexterity WMS allows you to manage top level items and sub-components. This could be a bundled sale item like a kit of parts, e.g. a PC with base unit, mouse, screen and accessories, or a BOM for a manufactured item with ingredients and sub-assemblies. Dexterity can manage and guide the warehouse worker to pick the correct components for a Works Order or Kit Assembly to ensure the right elements are delivered to the customer or issued to the manufacturing facility.

Finished Products are then received into stock on the outbound side of manufacturing. At this point the pallets/cartons will be labelled, with labels being produced using the Dexterity software utility running on a local PC. This will enable the user to create a pallet/carton label for the finished goods with a unique ID, product code, works order details, dates (best before, expiry, etc.) and any other details that may be required for a subsequent order picking process.

This creates a complete history of the Works Order from creation, through issuing materials to manufacturing, to acceptance of finished goods, leaving a complete audit trail and history of how many have been manufactured, together with batch numbers used to provide a complete traceability record.

The finished goods are then "putaway" into the warehouse by scanning the finished good barcoded label. If required, Dexterity can guide the user to the correct warehouse product location, which is dependant on your specific warehouse location strategy.

Carrier Integration

The Dexterity WMS Carrier Integration Module, allows companies to streamline their entire dispatch process. Dexterity WMS has been integrated with many of the leading carrier's despatch systems, to eliminate the manual process of keying in shipment and consignment details for deliveries when producing consignment and tracking labels. The benefit of this module is that errors in shipping details from incorrect keying in are eliminated and the whole dispatch process is made smooth and seamless.

  • Seamless integration with carrier shipping software
  • Automatically creates shipping labels
  • Records carrier tracking details
  • Complete traceability from pick to delivery

The module can be integrated with any Carrier system:

Back To Back Orders

Dexterity has the capability to automate and manage Back To Back orders. Back To Back orders occur when sales orders cannot be fulfilled using current stock and a purchase order has to be raised. When the product arrives, it will simply be putaway, but this action neglects to take into account the open sales order awaiting the product. Therefore the fulfillment and dispatch of the open order is left to local knowledge or the customer ringing to chase their order.

Using Dexterity's unique module, stock can be allocated to open orders as soon as it is received and the rest put into stock. This means that customer orders are fulfilled and dispatched as soon as possible and stock being received is prioritised instead of potentially being picked for new orders. Dexterity also has the ability to de-allocate orders, in the case that the order is cancelled before the stock is received. Should this occur, stock will simply be putaway as normal.

Automated Event Communication

Dexterity can completely automate the line of communication from warehouse worker through supervision to management and ultimately to your customer. Automatically informing the right people with instant and accurate updates of key situations and events, takes away the need for word of mouth, printed reports and eliminates those last minute panics that can occur like stock outs, late shipments and missed deadlines.

The "live" system driven communication means that the right people will always be informed and in control.

Event Communication Overview Example

Dexterity's unique Event Communication can be configured to issue "live" email alerts for custom events, for example:

  • Low Stock Warnings
  • Orders Picked Alerts for Account Managers
  • Low Pickface Alerts
  • Stock Arrival Alerts
  • QC Stock Status Alerts

Different individuals or groups can be notified when certain events occur.

Pick To Box/Pick To Bundle

Dexterity WMS caters for situations where small items need to be picked into a box or bundle, for example accessories for a customer order (fittings, brackets, etc.) or simply picking and packing smaller items into a package or box for loading and delivery for the customer.

Dexterity WMS can manage this process from picking to despatch by scanning and tracking smaller items through the picking process and labelling each box or package with a unique package label, listing its contents and a barcode, which can be scanned at point of despatch onto the delivery vehicle to provide a delivery manifest of how many boxes or parcels are loaded for delivery to the customer.

  • Dexterity WMS manages pick to box and bundles
  • Unique "Package ID" binds the stock together as a delivery unit
  • Single scan for package and customer order loading
  • Packages are listed on the delivery manifest and shipping documentation
  • Custom label design to meet customer requirements

Compliance Labelling Module

Compliance labelling is becoming more and more common across all business sectors, though is especially prominent in FMCG and anyone supplying into large superstores. Large companies have specific information that needs to be put on product labelling and is stored in uniquely generated barcodes. Failure to comply with this labelling can result in fines and ultimately loss of business.

With this in mind, Barcode-IT have introduced NiceLabel for Dexterity, a fully featured label design and print solution, optimised for use with Dexterity WMS. NiceLabel for Dexterity includes a full set of labels that are pre-linked to Dexterity WMS database tables, so that information stored in Dexterity is available for all kinds of label printing.

  • SSCC (serial shipping container code) labels for pallets and containers
  • EAN labels for products and retail scanned items
  • Inner and outer carton barcode labels
  • 1D and 2D barcode formats
  • Print despatch notes with shipping ID
  • Print customer shipping labels
  • Print package and box labels
  • Print carrier tracking labels

Barcode-IT have been supplying barcode label printing systems to UK businesses for more than 20 years and so have the knowledge to guide barcode label design and recommend the most suitable hardware and both desktop and mobile printers can be integrated into Dexterity WMS by Barcode-IT.
