Success Stories - Bristol NoveltyWhen you are growing your business, you need a warehouse management solution that is flexible enough to adapt to changing needs and requirements. In 2009, Bristol Novelty were looking for a WMS solution that could integrate seamlessly with their Sage 200 system, yet was flexible enough to meet their specific company requirements, as they were adding upwards of 800 product lines to their warehouse each year.
The need for a warehouse management solution was realised following the appointment of new Operations Manager, Danny Ryall, who had previous experience of a good WMS and the benefits it afforded. The system used by Bristol Novelty relied on a manual system, which often lead to inefficiencies within the business as well as a lack of management visibility.
Having researched a number of existing Sage addition solutions that couldn't fulfil their brief, Bristol Novelty came across Dexterity WMS for Sage 200 from Barcode-IT, a solution that offered the flexibility required plus full integration with Sage 200.
“Dexterity WMS has helped us save both time and money since its installation. The flexibility of Dexterity and the help from the Barcode-IT team tailoring the system to fit our requirements, made the daunting prospect of changing the way we were operating a much smoother experience.” says Danny Ryall, Operations Manager at Bristol Novelty.
Since the Dexterity WMS solution was implemented in early 2010, Bristol Novelty have seen a 15% increase in productivity. Management now have 100% visibility over the warehouse and can see the status of orders easily from the comfort of their office. Additionally, managers have the ability to analyse picker performance, which means they can see the progress of individual pickers and respond to any inefficiencies within the warehouse.
Application OverviewDexterity WMS for Sage 200 is used to automate receiving, stock replenishment and stock takes within the Bristol Novelty warehouse. To provide a flexible solution, Barcode-IT were asked to write a picking module for Bristol Novelty that conformed to their specific business needs and is therefore tailored to their exact requirement.
The 100% visibility in the warehouse reported by management, is largely due to the Dexterity Order Management Screen. This allows the status of an order to be realised at a glance, rather than having to go down to the shopfloor to ask someone.
In order to facilitate the automated procedures within the warehouse, the 8 strong picking team use Dex-S1 handheld mobile terminals. As our recommended terminals for Dexterity projects, the Dex-S1 is a rugged mobile terminal that communicates data back to the Dexterity server using 802.11b/g WiFi via a number of Cisco access point located throughout the warehouse. Dispatch labels are printed using a Datamax M-Class printer, which pulls data from the Dexterity server.
How it startedBristol Novelty came across Barcode-IT when searching the web for a warehouse management solution to integrate and enhance Sage 200 in February 2009, after competitor offerings couldn't provide the flexible solution for Sage 200 they were looking for. After discussing their requirements and seeing the solution working on a site visit to Kays Medical, Bristol Novelty chose Dexterity WMS over competitor solutions.
