Success Stories - Global TradingFor over 30 years, Global have been creating innovative packaging solutions for supermarkets, high-street retailers and industries throughout the UK. A key part of their service is the provision of a reliable stockholding and distribution service. In order to ensure a high level of efficiency and traceability within their 25,000 sq. ft storage facility, Global contacted Barcode-IT to discuss their Dexterity WMS solution for Sage 200 in 2009.
Global Trading needed to update their paper-based warehouse management methods, to create a faster and more efficient warehouse to offer the best possible service to their customers. Additionally, Global were upgrading from Sage MMS to 200, which offered the perfect opportunity to install a warehouse management solution.
"Dexterity WMS provides seamless integration to Sage 200 but offers flexibility that can make the software unique to the customer - that's why we chose the solution offered by Barcode-IT over competitor offers." says John Clarkson, Director at Global Trading Ltd. "Additionally, being able to visit existing Dexterity sites was very useful and gave us ideas for improvements to our own warehouse, that we wouldn't have necessarily thought of ourselves."
Since "going live" with Dexterity WMS in January 2010, Global Trading have seen significant improvements in order picking and putaway. Time saving is one of the biggest benefits that Global have experienced from implementing Dexterity WMS, as previously manually inputting data and locating stock was a very time consuming process.
Application OverviewDexterity WMS from Barcode-IT automates key processes within the warehouse, whilst seamlessly exchanging data with Sage 200. Cisco Access Points are placed around the warehouse, to ensure automatic roaming and comprehensive coverage whilst operators work in the warehouse. Using Dex-S1 mobile terminals, stock items can be received into the warehouse, putaway and picked for shipping to customers, and information is passed back to the Dexterity server, which is integrated with Sage 200.
"Barcode-IT provide the full package, from WMS software to hardware and support after installation and it's all done by in-house staff, so you know the quality of work and advice you're getting." continues John Clarkson.

Global opted to add the Dexterity Container Management module into their specifications, following a site visit to Endon Lighting, where the benefits of the module were clearly visible. Dexterity WMS has the capability to efficiently automate the receipt of shipping containers, to enable their complete and accurate receipt into the warehouse. The shipping container barcode is scanned to initiate the receiving process and then each product is scanned in as it is unloaded from the container. Products are automatically allocated to all the relevant purchase orders and posted back to Sage 200 "live" using Sage Business Objects.
How it startedGlobal Trading came across Barcode-IT when searching the internet for warehouse management solutions to link into Sage 200 in April 2009. After considering competitor offers and visiting current Dexterity WMS user Endon Lighting, Global chose Dexterity WMS due to the flexibility the solution offered and the fact that it was still able to integrate seamlessly into Sage.
